The state of Illinois opened Starved Rock State Park to the public in 1911. In 1933, construction began on Starved Rock Lodge and 16 cabins by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The Lodge opened to the public in 1939. Designed by Joseph F. Booten, the Lodge property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in May of 1985.
